Training from his Aunt and Grandparents combined with experience managing local Austin establishments led 3rd generation restaurateur Greg Koury to dream of opening his own restaurant. While pursuing a graduate degree at the Institute of Latin American History at the University of Texas, Greg got the idea for Manuel’s. Rather than the typical Tex-Mex fare of the time, his vision was of artfully prepared dishes from Mexico’s interior and coastal regions, served in a contemporary setting. In 1984, this dream became a reality when Koury introduced downtown Austin to Regional Mexican Cooking, with the opening of Manuel’s at 310 Congress Avenue. Today, high quality ingredients, consistency, and friendly service have made Manuel’s an Austin staple. Koury is President and CEO, running the company with his wife, Jennifer McNevin, and longtime co-owner, Ahmad Modoni. In addition to Manuel’s on Congress Avenue and Manuel’s Great Hills location, the group has successfully collaborated on several other concepts in Austin including 612 West, The Iguana Grill and Changos Taqueria. Manuel’s has a rich history of community relationships and provides support for food-related programs, charitable organizations and the performing arts.
