We have endeavored to bring to Washington a flavor of today’s Ireland, with a look that presents our most cherished traditional aspects yet also displays modern Ireland’s strong European culinary influences. Stop by for a pint or a plate and experience what has been called a “neighborhood gem” and “warmth in the heart of Dupont.” James Hoban is the Irish architect of the White House, beating Thomas Jefferson in an architectural competition for the best design. He designed many other important buildings in his adopted country, the young United States of America. We seek to honor this little known Irishman by naming our restaurant & pub after him. In Ireland, the pub – whether it is a bustling bar in Dublin or a humble place in the country – is a focal point where the people of the community meet to converse, entertain, and share a meal with each other. At the pub, locals and guests gather to celebrate a happy event, or to give support to each other in times of trouble.
