Monk’s Pub derived its name… from a historic monastery where, as a boy, the owner resided one summer. So impressed with his stay, he thought to himself if I ever own a public house, I’m going to call it Monk’s! May of 1978, his boyhood dream became a reality when he acquired a public house in Chicago called Monk’s Pub. Much of the pub’s look… from its solid wood doors and exposed brick walls to its antique decor are reflective of the monastery for which the owner has such fond memories. Throughout the pub are wooden barrels suggestive of the beers and wines that were made in old oak barrels at the monastery to accompany meals taken there. Replicas of it’s menu boards are displayed on a wall beside the pub’s bar. A collection of lanterns hang from the beams reminiscent of nights spent in the old monastery illuminated inside and out with huge kerosene lanterns. An impressive collection… of chandeliers purchased from antique shops around the world span the entire ceiling of Monk’s Pub. A sign made special for the Pub was handmade at a shop in Barcelona, Spain and shipped to the pub where it hangs outside the entrance.
